„Dream Girl“ – Latin Pole Choreography

7. September 2020 by Miglena

Video below ↓

If you like the energy and sex appeal of latin/caribbean dance styles, you’re probably going to enjoy the choreography below. It is fun and easy to learn.

This routine is different than anything I’ve created previously.

It consists of 4 latin/salsa dance inspired moves, which unlike regular pole moves can be looped and danced for a longer period of time. As a result, it keeps you moving, instead of thinking what to do next.

Why Latin Pole?

  • Have you noticed that there are dance styles, where you can learn just a few basic steps and start dancing freely almost right away? Many latin styles are like this. You can loose yourself to dance using only a few steps. Unfortunately pole dance doesn’t work that way. The basic pole moves and spins can not be looped, which turns improvising on the pole into a more advanced skill.
  • Do you find it difficult to combine ON- and OFF-pole smoothly? Me too. It feels like two completely different worlds that require different skills. But not if you use the pole as a dance partner. Instead of ON the pole, dance WITH the pole. Latin styles are partner-based dance styles and that’s why they work well WITH the pole as a „partner“.
  • Finally, the song „Dream Girl“ brings for me the ultimate summer vibes. I’ve originally created this tutorial for a pole event which takes place outdoors in beautiful Dresden. It really fits the spirit of a summery „music & pole“ jam.

I think that latin dance styles help a lot to loosen up the tricks-focused mind and body, to improve musicality, freedom and joy of movement.

The video below includes a quick breakdown of the moves and an edited version of the original song – „Dream Girl“ by Ir Sais.

If you try the choreo, please send me a video or tag me in your attempts. I’d love to see them.

Which other dance styles fit well with the pole, in your opinion?

Let me know in the comments.
