Side Climb antipathy? Two easy ways to get the most out of its beauty (Knee Hook Spin)

5. September 2017 by Miglena

Video below ↓

Are you avoiding the Side Climb? Or have you even banned it from your pole practice?

I did! I’ve always been putting it off and I still don’t use it very often as a climb. I find it painful and it requires much more strength than a regular climb. You’ll never see me side climbing more than once or twice in a row.

Still, I found two ways to get the most out of the beauty of this pole move. I use it to…

  1. TRANSITION OFF THE FLOOR
The Side Climb could be the most seamless transition into climbing if you’re standing or spinning sideways to the pole. Which is usually the case. 😉
  2. MAKE A REGULAR CLIMB INTERESTING
by adding a side climb in between.

The Knee Hook Backwards Spin is one of the easiest transitions into a Side Climb. Only Static is probably easier, but it’s not as pretty as a spin.

I came up with this move, because I got a list of moves from the studio owner that I had to include in my choreography class for beginners. I knew right away that the Side Climb might be too difficult for beginners and I was figuring out what would be the easiest way to teach it.

This is what I came up with:

And here’s how I used it to make a regular climb more interesting:

P.S.: What are your feelings about the Side Climb? How often do you use it in your pole practice?
